Samarium Cobalt Magnets: The Latest Rare Earth Magnet

Magnets have evolved a lot and with the span of time, the professionals have discovered a lot many rare Earth magnets as well. Earlier we all used to stick the brightly-colored plastic alphabet magnets to our refrigerator door. Magnets have come a long way since then and there are now magnets available which are stronger than ever and their variety makes them useful in a wide variety of applications.
Samarium Cobalt magnets is one of such rare Earth magnets, which is especially large rare earth magnets. This magnet has revolutionized many industries and businesses by expanding the number of applications. Samarium cobalt or SaCo was discovered in the 1970s but it started to become popular very recently. It has now become the most precious kind of rare magnets and they’ve been used in a wide variety of applications.

Though these are not as strong as a neodymium magnet, it typically offer the BHmax of about 26. The Tmax of a samarium cobalt magnet is 300 degrees Celsius and the Tcurie can go upto 750 degrees Celsius. These magnets can withstand a much higher temperatures than neodymium magnets. Unlike neodymium magnets, samarium cobalt magnets have good resistance to corrosion.

Samarium is extensively used in many industrial applications including the most powerful turbines and generators as well as scientific applications. These are extremely strong magnets otherwise if not compared to neodymium. Their relative strength combined has the ability to withstand extremely high temperatures makes for high-heat applications. They tend to have a higher price point than neodymium magnets.
While many business owners are aware of these magnets, Samarium Cobalt magnets are responsible for making existing applications more efficient. The maximum grade of a SmCo magnet available in the market is 28 MGOe. We offer these magnets in different shapes and sizes in our custom machining shop.
